Orwell Offshore and FES International have landed a multi-million dollar contract from TH Heavy Engineering Berhad for the supply of an external turret system for the FPSO Layang. The combined contract value is estimated at US$40 million.

As part  of  the  commission,  naval  architecture  and  offshore  engineering  services  firm,  Orwell Offshore, will deliver the external turret and mooring system, while fluid transfer solutions provider, FES International, will supply the fluid transfer system, swivel stack and mechanical components.

The FPSO Layang, formerly Deep Producer 1, is contracted to JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Limited and will operate at the Layang field offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

The turret is to be an externally bow mounted design and will enable FPSO operations in water depths of up to 90 m. Orwell’s design will provide the FPSO with a permanent mooring and free weather vaning capability, as well as enabling flexibility for re-deployment to other sites. FES will provide the swivel.

The project is expected to be completed by Q4 2015.

Mark Evans, managing director of Orwell Offshore, said: “We consider this a significant milestone in our business model for the turnkey supply of FPSO mooring systems.  Working with our long-term colleagues at FES, allows us to offer the optimum solution to our client with the confidence that it can be delivered within the project constraints.”

Rob Anderson, managing director of FES International, said: “We’ve a long-standing relationship and proven track-record working with Orwell Offshore and are delighted to be working in partnership with them again on such a significant project. Together we’re providing a technical and innovative solution that will bring both practical and commercial benefits to the project.”

The Layang field was discovered in 1990 and is located in Block SK10 offshore Sarawak, Malaysia. Commercial production from the Layang field is expected to commence in summer 2016.
