Emerging Markets Communications makes acquisition

Emerging Markets Communications (EMC), a global satellite and terrestrial communications services provider, announced today it acquired General Industry Systems (GIS) AS, a Norwegian-based provider specialising in energy and maritime connectivity services for offshore operations. The consolidated portfolio of products, services, experience, locations and engineers of the companies strengthens EMC’s energy and maritime business segments.

EMC’s fully managed connectivity services, global infrastructure of field support centres, teleports and satellite capacity, combined with GIS’s on-site systems integration projects, completes its full-suite of communications solutions for the industry. The addition of GIS’s support centres and technical teams broadens EMC’s presence in strategic Energy hubs worldwide with locations in Stavanger and Oslo, Norway; Singapore Aberdeen, Scotland; Houston, Texas; Abu Dhabi, UAE; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, West Africa, and London, UK.

Global Customer Base

The acquisition of GIS expands EMC’s customer base within the Oil & Gas and Maritime verticals and includes many of the largest global and local companies operating in The North Sea, The Baltic Sea, Offshore Brazil, Gulf of Mexico and Asia-Pacific regions such as Statoil, Seadrill, Transocean, Rowan Drilling, Diamond Offshore, CGG Veritas, DeepOcean Maritime, Weatherford and Maersk. EMC provides satellite connectivity and systems integrations services to support a variety of offshore assets including platform rigs, FPSOs, jack-ups, drilling ships, semi-submersibles and offshore support vessels.

The combined portfolio of products and services includes fully managed satellite connectivity, global coverage in C and Ku-band, network design, shipping, logistics, bandwidth commission, installation, integration of complex communications systems and on-going support.
