Breitling Energy on Lancashire fracking decision

Chris Faulkner, CEO of Breitling Energy voiced disappointment at Lancashire Council’s recent decision to refuse an application to explore for shale gas at two sites in the UK.

Gas exploration company, Cuadrilla, applied to drill at two sites which was soon greatly opposed to by many campaigners. However, this is likely to be only a temporary delay in the UK adopting fracking.

Emotion prevailed over fact

Faulkner believes that the decision was swayed by protesters, rather than led by fact. He began by highlighting his shock at the decision, stating: “I'm truly amazed at Council's decision today, but I can see their dilemma. They have the facts from multiple sources that this could be done safely, yet they drive past well organised and very vocal protests on their way into the meeting and obviously emotion prevailed over fact."

"Since last Thursday, when the councillors deferred to advice, fracking has continued on many wells in the US without reflect on legal incident, yet here they were just considering two very highly-monitored situations. Fracking and horizontal drilling are not new technologies, they are tried and tested with over 1.5 million fracked wells in the US since fracking originated in 1947.”

“I am sure Cuadrilla will appeal both this and last week’s decisions and the Planning Inspector is bound to have a more pragmatic view of these applications, more in line with national policy and the national interest,” Faulkner added.
