DSL have announced that its training academy has gained API-U approval of four training courses, available worldwide.

The API-U learning approved course includes the following; Drilling Structure Inspector, Drilling Technician, API 4G Category I & II Structure Inspection and Dropped Object Awareness and Prevention. The Drilling Structures Inspector and Derrick Technicians training courses were formerly provided under the former API TPCP structure which has now been replaced with the API-U learning.

These training courses reinforce DSL’s commitment to enhancing the integrity and quality in the industry for the inspection of drilling derricks, masts and substructures in accordance with API 4G. As well as providing the industry with drilling structure inspectors with the only industry recognised approval, the new API Category I & II Drilling Structure Inspection course provides drill crews with the core competency to carry out their own inspections. In turn this will help to reduce the amount of defects recorded when Cat III or Cat IV inspections are carried out, thus saving time and costs.

All of the above courses can be held in classroom environments worldwide as well as some accessible online through DSL’s e-learning platform, therefore the courses are easily accessible 24/7, globally and without the need for travel.

Mike Smith, Managing Director states, ‘The API-U approval is a great accolade to the experience and expertise DSL has, in order to deliver courses to a high industry recognised standard. The courses represent our knowledge in the industry, through inspection to awareness of dropped objects. It is our responsibility to educate and improve safety for all’.
