IE announces conference programme chair for 2016

SPE Intelligent Energy (IE) has announced that Asgeir Drøivoldsmo has been selected as the conference programme chair for the 2016 event which will take place in Aberdeen.

The theme of next year’s conference, which will be held at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) from 6 - 8 September 2016, is ‘New Horizons: Intelligent Energy in a Changing World’. Visitors from around the world are expected to gather in Europe’s energy capital as the latest smart technologies and IE solutions are to be showcased at the seventh edition of the biennial event.

Mr Drøivoldsmo is the principal research scientist for the Man and Technology Organisation (MTO) and safety sector at the Institute for Energy Technology in Norway. Human capabilities and limitations are vital for safety in control rooms and his role involves analysing the factors that influence human reliability and ability to cope with unexpected events.

“This is the seventh SPE Intelligent Energy conference and it is of more relevance for the industry than ever before,” said Mr Drøivoldsmo. “The 2016 conference will showcase the latest trends and opportunities in big data, cloud computing and intelligent systems. For the oil and gas sector, it has never been a better time to leverage smart technology and business practices to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.

“The programme will consist of panels, invited papers, open discussion sessions and technical sessions to promote energetic debates on key topics touching upon the current situation and the IE solutions. The event will once again offer an unparalleled opportunity to learn from the brightest minds in our industry, exchange knowledge, and network with our peers.”

The executive committee co-chairs for the 2016 event are Walt Aldred of Schlumberger and Amy Zeringue of Chevron.

Walt Aldred is the research director and scientific advisor for drilling at Schlumberger Cambridge Research, working on novel drilling methods and automation of the drilling system. He is also a founding member of the SPE Drilling Systems Automation Technical Section (DSATS).

Amy Zeringue is the chief information officer for Chevron’s Global Upstream Capability Drilling and Completions group where she is responsible for short- and long-term information technology strategies to enable Chevron’s drilling and completions engineering and operations organisations globally. Ms. Zeringue has previously served as a paper contributor, panellist, and a member of the programme committee for the 2012 and 2014 SPE Intelligent Energy conferences.

As in previous editions, the 2016 conference will be produced by SPE and will comprise of a three day technical programme with an estimated 80 papers covering topics including technology, integrated operations, leadership, cyber-security and big data. The exhibition, organised by Reed Exhibitions, will showcase new and developing technologies and expertise by leading operators, service companies and technology providers.

SPE Intelligent Energy 2014 was held in Utrecht, the Netherlands and themed ‘Aspirations and Accomplishments’. It provoked vibrant debate as industry professionals from 35 countries, including 600 conference delegates, participated in panel discussions, special sessions and interactive Q&As. Delegates considered the growing importance of digital energy in increasing asset value while improving health, safety and environmental performance.
