Shale gas explorer extends licenses in Poland
San Leon Energy is extending its licenses to explore for shale gas in northern Poland, The Associated Press reports.
The company’s Managing Director, Pawel Chalupka, explained that results from its three vertical wells near the Baltic Sea coast encouraged San Leon Energy to seek an extension to its licenses in the area.
On 24 November, the company announced the spud of the Rawicz-12 appraisal well on the 742 km2 Rawicz Concession in Poland’s southern Permian Basin. The well is estimated to take 45 days to reach a total depth of 1900 m and is being drilled by Exalo Drilling.
Commenting on this progress, Oisin Fanning, Chairman, said: “This is a great opportunity for San Leon to establish first gas production in Poland. We are pleased to be working with PNG [Palomar Natural Resources] and are confident in their operational ability.
“Rawicz is a project that San Leon has worked hard to bring forward over the last three years, and we look forward to updating the market with results in due course.”
Poland remains Europe’s leader in shale gas exploration.
