Aker Solutions wins contract for Goliat FPSO mooring system

Oilfield Technology,

The contract consists of 14 Pusnes fairlead chain stoppersTM and three moveable Pusnes windlassesTM for 165 mm chain size. The hull for the round-shaped production unit (FPSO) will be built in South Korea. After completion, the FPSO will be located at the Goliat field in the Barents Sea.

The fairlead chain stopper constrains the mooring load to a limited area on the hull. Its long, pivoting stopper arm reduces chain wear and increases the fatigue life of the chain. The design eliminates the need for reinforcements at the deck level thereby decreasing the overall weight.

Leif Haukom, president of Aker Solutions' offshore mooring systems business, commented, "We are proud to be selected as maker of the on-vessel mooring equipment for the first production unit made for the Barents Sea. This contract underlines Aker Solutions' strong position for mooring systems to installations in harsh environments, such as the Barents Sea."

The equipment will be manufactured in Norway, Poland and South Korea and the delivery will take place during 2011.
