Lundin makes gas find offshore Malaysia
Lundin Petroleum has announced that it has struck approximately 60 m of gas pay offshore Malaysia in the PM307 block.
The well, Tembakau-1, was drilled to a depth of 1565 m, in 67 m of water. The 60 m of gas pay was spread across five sand intervals.
Ashley Heppenstall, Lundin’s chief executive, said. “We are hopeful this discovery has the potential to be commercial on a stand-alone basis given its close proximity to existing gas infrastructure and the strong demand for gas in Penninsular Malaysia … The discovery paves the way to evaluate further follow-up potential in an area where Lundin Petroleum acquired a large 3D survey in 2011.”
Following a data acquisition programme and logging, the well was plugged and abandoned. The vessel that dug the well, the West Courageous, is now due to be moved to drill the last well of Lundin’s exploration programme offshore Malaysia. The well in question is the Ara-1 in Block PM308A, where Lundin owns a 35% stake.
Overall, Lundin is the operator of 6 blocks offshore Malaysia: PM307, PM308A, PM308B, SB303, SB307 and SB308.
