Darcy Technologies, a sand control technology company, has announced that it has secured a deal to provide a tailored sand control completion system solution for Statoil, the multinational oil and gas company.

The system, which removes the need for gravel pack equipment, is set to be deployed initially on Statoil’s new development project for the company’s North Sea Snorre field.

The Norwegian firm has said it is looking to extend the life of the Snorre field until 2040 through the launch of a new platform and support of the existing infrastructure. If successful, the deal could see Darcy’s sand control completion system rolled out to other projects on the Norwegian and UK continental shelf.

Established in 2009, Darcy has been commercialising its unique sand control technology. From its headquarters in Aberdeen, UK, each system is designed and engineered to the specifications of each client’s reservoir and production application, providing a solution that replaces gravel packing, expandable and stand-alone screens offering significant technical and commercial value and production benefits.

The company was supported through the process by growth capital investor Epi-V, which has backed the company since its inception.

Epi-V’s portfolio also includes Guardian, an independent designer and manufacturer of advanced ballistics and production logging technology, Moorland, an independent oil and gas exploration and production company, which holds an exploration license covering 57 000 acres in North Yorkshire near Pickering, and most recently Angus Fire, the world’s leading manufacturer of firefighting products and technology.

Steve Kent, Partner at Epi-V, commented:

“Darcy has worked hard to gain recognition as the chosen partner in the sand control technology market and the award of this contract is testament to the progress that the management team is making. The company continues to develop its tailored technology offering and we are confident that it will have a big impact on the efficiency of Statoil’s new development project.”

Mark Presslie, Business Development Manager at Darcy, commented:

“The contract award represents a great opportunity for Darcy given Statoil’s leadership in the field of sand control completion technology.”

A spokesperson for Statoil, commented:

“Statoil sees great potential for this technology in enhancing our production and productivity. Furthermore, it can deal with some of the current issues we have with traditional sand control methods.”
