Highlighting Dow’s role in providing solutions to critical oil and gas industry challenges Dow Oil Gas & Mining, Dow Water & Process Solutions, and Dow Polyurethanes have all been honoured by R&D magazine as part of its 2014 R&D 100 Awards.

NEPTUNE Insulation System

Dow Oil Gas & Mining has been awarded a 2014 R&D 100 Award for the DOW NEPTUNE™ Advanced Subsea Flow Assurance Insulation System. The system is based on a new, proprietary insulation material that offers uniform, high performance from the well-head to the delivery point.

“With the demand for oil and gas continuing to rise and reserves becoming increasingly difficult to reach, the NEPTUNE Insulation System allows producers to access valuable resources from more extreme environments in a safe and reliable way,” commented Alex Land, global business segment manager – Transmission, Dow Oil & Gas.

“We are proud to be recognised for this breakthrough technology, developed in cooperation with leading industry coaters, which helps shorten qualification time and minimize project risk.”

The award-winning NEPTUNE Insulation System is a simple, all-in-one insulation system designed for casting around deep subsea flowlines and ancillary equipment.

TEQUATIC PLUS Filter

R&D magazine has also recognised the TEQUATIC™ PLUS Fine Particle Filter as a groundbreaking solution for treating difficult, high-solids water.

The unique filtration device from Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS) helps process a wide range of difficult high-solids water, offering a cost-effective solution for wastewater treatment in multiple industry segments, including pol and gas applications.

“The TEQUATIC PLUS Filter helps customers reduce their cost of ownership through higher uptime and water recovery, and lower maintenance and consumables, in addition to reduced waste disposal surcharges from local treatment plants,” said Cedella Beazley, business unit director for filtration at DW&PS.

The TEQUATIC Filter combines the power of continuous cleaning, cross-flow filtration with centrifugal separation and solids collection into one device.

Preferred RCS Resin Coated Sand with Dow TERAFORCE Technology

Finally, a new product resulting from a collaboration between Preferred Sands and The Dow Chemical Company has been named as one of the 100 most influential innovations in 2013.

Preferred RCS™ Resin Coated Sand with Dow TERAFORCE™ Technology was honoured with an R&D 100 Award for its role in helping improve oil productivity and the environmental profile of the hydraulic fracturing process.

The product’s polyurethanes coating properties deliver benefits during oil and gas recovery process, including:

  • Saving energy by requiring shorter production cycles and low temperatures, so that large volumes can be produced at a single production site.
  • Eliminating the need for an external activator that competing technologies require to be injected into the oil well.

“We are delighted to be honoured with Preferred Sands for this industry-changing technology,” said Chris Chrisafides, commercial director for Dow Polyurethanes, North America. “This technology demonstrates how unique and close collaboration with our customer results in innovation that capitalizes on a growth market while addressing the short and long-term needs of society.”

Preferred Sands CEO, Michael O’Neill, added: “The high values of safety and community responsibility we share with Dow position our strategic collaboration for ongoing success. The technology delivers a high performing alternative for the oil and gas industry and we’re thrilled to be working with a company that is committed to creating solutions that address industry challenges with sustainability always top of mind.”
