Ichthys FPSO contract to be announced soon
According to a recent announcement, the winner of the FPSO contract for the Ichthys project, which is based off the north Australian coast and operated by Inpex, will be named “in the coming weeks.”
The joint venture between JGC Corporation, Chiyoda Corporation, and KBR, known as JKC, will continue to manage the engineering and construction of Ichthys’ onshore LNG facilities, which are located near Darwin. Other key players in the project are, Samsung Heavy Industry, which will be responsible for the creation of the central processing facility and, General Electric, which will develop the subsea production system.
Many other companies will be involved in the manufacture and installation of the 900 km of pipeline between the field and the onshore facilities at Darwin.
Not only did competitors for contracts on the Ichthys project have to demonstrate their environmental credentials, but they also had to give evidence of their plans to make extensive use of Australian products and services.
The high level of manpower necessitated by the construction phase is estimated to generate around 3000 new jobs in Darwin, with an additional 1000 based offshore. Once complete and fully operational, the day-to-day running of the Ichthys project will mean that approximately 700 jobs will become available on a more permanent basis.
