Update on Kårstø gas leak

At 10:30 pm on Thursday night, a gas leak was reported at Kårstø processing plant. The emergency services and authorities were notified about the situation and Statoil’s emergency response organisation was established.
All personnel were accounted for and brought to safety. A notice to neighbours has also been sent in accordance with protocol.
The emergency response organisation’s most important task was to obtain an overview of the situation and mobilise the resources required to manage the situation.
Kårstø gas leak stopped
The gas leak has now been stopped. The situation is returning to normal and external resources from the emergency services have been demobilised. It is too early to say anything about the cause of the incident, which will be investigated.
The leak occurred on the Statpipe section leading into the plant. Both Statpipe production trains have been stopped.
The incident did not lead to any physical injuries.
During normalisation and start-up of the plant following the incident last night, a smaller leak occurred, which is not usual during run-up of plant sections. The leak has been identified and is under control. The situation did not involve mobilisation of external resources.
