Maersk Line and Hamburg Sud have taken the title of most reliable container shipping carriers after London-based shipping consultancy firm Drewry released recent liner performance rankings.
Hamburg Sud were, in the words of Hellenic Shipping News, “by far the most reliable carriers in the three months to October 2014” with overall on-time performances of 80.4% for Maersk and 78.5% for Hamburg Sud. Chinese liner COSCO ranked in third with a 69.9% reliability rating.
Drewry developed its latest Carrier Performance Insight alongside shipment management software solutions provider CargoSmart.By using Automatic Identification System data to record on-time port arrivals against schedules on 350 different port pair combinations, Drewry have been able to set an industry standard.
Reliability industry-wide has improved slightly according to the findings, with notable improvements in the Transpacific and Transatlantic routes.
