Oilfield Technology,

Global Geo Services has released the Persian Carpet 2000 multi client 2D (MC2D) seismic survey that covers the Iranian section of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea.

The region holds the world’s largest petroleum potential; the Islamic Republic of Iran plans to substantially increase the country’s production capacity.

Comments

Bjorn Ursin-Holm, Global Geo Services CEO, commented: “With the ongoing international negotiations to lift the US/EU embargo on Iran, there is a big push to open up Iran for new foreign investments to international oil companies. The PC-2000 seismic survey covers the entire offshore area offshore Iran and preliminary interpretation of the data shows geological risks will be minimal, reserves are huge and there is significant potential for the international community.”

Persian Carpet 2000

The Persian Carpet 2000 MC2D seismic survey (PC-2000) is the world’s largest MC2D seismic survey and comprises of 106 000 km covering the Iranian area of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. The dense grid of 2 x 2 km seismic lines is an essential data set for all oil companies applying for future petroleum licenses offshore Iran. The PC-2000 data also assists exploration in the Iranian part of the Oman Sea that indicates significant petroleum potential.

Seismic data

A number of undrilled structures and stratigraphic prospects have already been found from preliminary interpretation of the PC-2000 seismic data. With renewed interest from international oil companies for this database, Global Geo Services plans to reprocess the 106 000 km of MC2D data.
