Lundin strikes it lucky at Luno 2
The Swedish company, Lundin Petroleum has found good quality, light oil at its Luno 2 prospect in the Norwegian North Sea.
The well was drilled into oil bearing sands and uncovered a 40 m column of good quality crude. According to a statement released by the company, pressure data showed a separate petroleum system from the neighbouring Edvard Grieg and Johan Sverdrup fields.
Lundin’s CEO, Ashley Heppenstal said, “Luno 2 appears to be another significant discovery on the Utsira High … The reservoir quality, whilst not the same as Johan Sverdrup, appears good and will now be tested.”
The company has yet to announce the recoverable resources at the find, but expects to do this within three weeks. The nearby Johan Sverdrup field contains as much as 3.6 billion bbls of oil, and was the largest find offshore Norway since 1974.
