Palfinger Marine sells offshore crane package to Aker Solutions

Oilfield Technology,

Palfinger Marine has sold a package of three travelling cranes and two foldable knuckle boom cranes to Aker Solutions for the use at the Mariner platform. The Mariner platform will be established at the Mariner field, which is located on the East Shetland Platform in the North Sea.

The main operator of the field is Statoil. Production is expected to commence in 2017. The platform will convey an average of 55,000 barrels of oil per day.

Travelling cranes

Palfinger Dreggen is delivering two TKU25 underslung travelling cranes with a safe working load (SWL) of 25 t and a span of 14 m, and one TKU75 underslung travelling crane with SWL of 75 t and a 14 m span as well. Both cranes are DNV certified.

The TKU75 is designed to transfer the blowout preventer (BOP) and its subassemblies. The TKU25 will be operating to transport material and equipment to the well intervention cathedral area.

Both travelling cranes are equipped with two hoist units that each have double capacity. In case one of the hoists should fail, the remaining one will safely be able to hold the load. This very important double-safety system was required by the platform operator for lifting over pressurised equipment that is at high risk if the load drops.

Knuckle boom cranes

Palfinger Marine is providing one PK 50002 MB with a lifting capacity of 3.5 t at 8.5 m and one PK 150002 MG with a lifting capacity of 2.9 t at 18 m. Both cranes fulfil the latest ATEX regulations and are DNV approved for cargo handling.

Complete lifting packages

Palfinger Marine has sold a complete lifting system to Aker Solutions. Joint projects within the companies product portfolio for marine and offshore cranes, launch and recovery systems, and boats will have a stronger focus in the future.
