EMC announces first high-throughput satellite connectivity solution

Oilfield Technology,

Emerging Markets Communications (EMC) is a global satellite and terrestrial communications company that specialises in delivering mission-critical, network services for the global maritime, global energy, telecom, governments, NGO and worldwide enterprise sectors. The company has recently announced its delivery of the first high-throughput satellite connectivity solution, leveraging O3b technology for the oil and gas industry.

Providing ongoing support in Iraq

The satellite connectivity solution has been created for a global energy company, providing ultra-low latency, fully redundant connectivity, high-speed bandwidth and local, ongoing support in Iraq.

The communications service solution combines O3b’s high-throughput, Ka-band capacity, as back-up for the terrestrial link and C-band for additional redundancy. This is a technical solution, designed to provide seamless communication across multiple sites in Iraq, supporting back office applications, voice, internet access, and high definition video conferencing.

Use of O3b satellites, which are closer to the earth than conventional geostationary satellites, reduces latency, increases the speed of internet and improves voice and video quality for users. O3b’s next generation IP trunking solution boosts existing link capacities to rival the affordability and latency of fibre.

At present, EMC provides satellite connectivity services for several global energy companies in Iraq, for oilfield operations and remote offices. The company provides satellite connectivity in C-Band and Ka-Band and local field support from its centres in Basra and Baghdad to provide on-site technical assistance and spare parts.

Comment from Emerging Markets Communications

“As early adopters of technology, our oil and gas customers demand lower-latency connectivity solutions for bandwidth-hungry applications, with more reliability, even in the most remote places of the world,” said Abel Avellan, Founder and CEO of Emerging Markets Communications. “Our investments in global infrastructure, local field support centres, patented technology and key partners, such as O3b, allow us to build a custom communications solution, tailored for oil and gas customers looking to implement new technology.”
