On 22 May 2025, Vink Chemicals celebrated the completion of the structural work for its new production site. Located in the Göhrener Tannen industrial park south of Schwerin’s city centre, this marks the family-owned company’s third production site in Germany – creating around 50 new jobs and strengthening the region economically.
At this new location, Vink Chemicals will synthesise active ingredients used to preserve technical products and produce customised blends. A special highlight of the Schwerin site is the biochar production plant, which offers a wide range of potential applications. The facility exemplifies a circular economy approach, combining residual material utilisation with a strong commitment to sustainability.
Use of electricity and waste heat from renewable raw materials
As by-products, the biochar plant generates process steam, heat, and electricity—covering part of the chemical production’s own energy needs. In addition, it can supply neighboring businesses with local heat and power. The scalable installation is currently designed to meet up to 30% of the site’s energy demand in a clean, affordable, and secure way – with potential for further expansion in the future. Its planned CO2 reduction capacity is currently unique within the German chemical industry.
To produce the biochar, Vink Chemicals uses sustainable raw materials, including regional forestry and sawmill residues, which serve as fuel for the biomass steam generator. The three pyrolysis units utilise untreated scrap wood – such as surplus wood from cable drum production – supplied by local companies.
Many visitors from business and politics
The topping-out ceremony, hosted by the construction company in charge, marked an important milestone at the new site. Among the guests were representatives from the state government and local administration, who honored the project with brief speeches. A regional business association also supported the event, emphasising its significance for the area’s economic development.
Vink Chemicals places great value on strong neighbourhood relations at the site. Together with nearby companies, the firm aims to contribute to the growth and advancement of the industrial area. Another major objective is to achieve climate neutrality at the location. For Vink Chemicals, this represents a significant investment in the future, paving the way to strengthen its role as a driving force in the industry.
