A new mobile app has been launched to provide oil and gas companies with essential information for employees travelling to West Africa.

The free resource was developed by the world’s leading medical and travel security risk services company International SOS, to keep businesses and their staff informed and protected.

The app is maintained 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is reviewed by experienced medical and security professionals.

Dr Beau Dees, regional medical director at International SOS in Aberdeen said it has been designed to give a factual representation of the outbreak, he said: “There are many Aberdeen based businesses with interests in West Africa. They are looking for current information and resources to communicate to their employees before they travel.

“This technology can help reduce the likelihood of panic by providing individuals with accurate, up-to-minute advice and information from a trusted source - and all in the palm of their hands.”

“It provides crucial information such as guidance on how Ebola is transmitted, what to do in the event of feeling unwell, what to avoid and how to keep yourself safe.

The app is part of a wider International SOS communications initiative aimed at supporting the global fight against Ebola.

Organisations in West Africa and beyond are using International SOS’ educational material, which has so far been translated into 21 languages worldwide. The company’s dedicated Ebola website has been made freely available to all, removing the normal requirement for membership access. It has attracted around 10 000 visitors a day since it launched.

International SOS was recently awarded the Most Innovative Use of Technology in the Global Mobility award at the 2014 Expatriate Management & Mobility Awards (EMMAs).
