Five talented engineers who are about to start their postgraduate studies will each receive a prestigious Petrofac/Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship this week.

The Petrofac Fellowships will be presented on 23 September at a reception at the Royal Academy of Engineering that will celebrate the five successful candidates joining the programme.

Now in their sixth year, the Petrofac Fellowships develop the concept of the Enhanced Graduate Engineer, combining a full-time Masters level course with additional learning and development opportunities, such as a company-sourced major project, a mentor or a work placement. Each successful applicant receives £9000 funding towards their Masters’ level course.

At the reception, senior representatives of Petrofac and the Academy will have a chance to meet past, present and newly awarded fellows. The 2013 recipients of the Petrofac Fellowship will give a brief presentation of their project work.

Petrofac’s Group Chief Executive Ayman Asfari FREng, elected this week as a Fellow of the Academy, says: “Today’s event marks the sixth anniversary of our involvement with the RAEng/Petrofac Fellowship programme. This partnership has been mutually rewarding for both the Petrofac mentors and the Petrofac Fellows, some of whom have since been employed within our Group. I am delighted to welcome five new graduate engineers as Petrofac Fellows and I look forward to watching their progression throughout the year.

“The Academy fulfills a vital role in ensuring the promotion of engineering as a career, and I would like to thank everyone involved with this programme for their continued efforts in creating a new generation of skilled engineers for our industry.”

  • Karim Elrify – Oil & Gas Engineering, University of Aberdeen.

  • Harris Rana – Petroleum Engineering, Imperial College London.
