MODEC Ghana Ltd technicians graduate from TTE

A group of Ghanaian technicians destined for Tullow Oil’s TEN Project off the coast of West Africa have graduated from their training programmes at The TTE Technical Training Group in the UK.

The 15 technicians, employed by MODEC Ghana Limited, have spent six months at TTE working towards Level 3 GVQ qualifications utilising its training centre’s industry-standard training facilities and delivered by its highly experienced training team.

They celebrated their graduation at an event organised by TTE, which was held at the Caribbean-themed Ivy House restaurant in Darlington, County Durham, and included presentation of certificates and entertainment from a Steel Band. It was attended by representatives from Tullow and MODEC who joined TTE Managing Director, Steve Grant to present the certificates.

Each of the technicians has achieved the EAL Level 3 GVQ Diploma in Process Operations covering disciplines including Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation and Process.

They were also awarded Level 2 Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) certification covering Health and Safety in the Workplace and principles of COSHH, Risk Assessment and Manual Handling.

When they return to Ghana the technicians will be deployed to a new Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) Vessel, which is currently under construction in Singapore that will be operated for the TEN development   by MODEC on behalf of Tullow and its partners.

Operated by Tullow, the TEN Project is Ghana’s second major oil development. The project takes its name from the three offshore fields under development – Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme – which are situated in the Deepwater Tano block, around 60 kilometres offshore of Western Ghana.

The first oil recovery is scheduled for mid-2016 with a facility capacity of around 80,000 barrels of oil per day.

TTE regularly welcomes technicians from National Oil Companies, operators and lead contractors from West Africa and the Middle East to its UK training centre in Middlesbrough.  The organisation provides comprehensive technical training, upskilling and reskilling of technicians and engineers through practical training underpinned by internationally-respected UK vocational qualifications.

In addition to this UK-based programme, TTE is applying its expertise in Ghana to support the development of the country’s local workforce.  In partnership with Tullow Oil, representing the Jubilee Partners*, TTE operates the Jubilee Technical Training Centre (JTTC), which is located at the Takoradi Polytechnic.

The training centre provides technical training, advice and guidance aimed at equipping local technicians with knowledge and skills for the oil, gas manufacturing and mining industries.
