Halliburton launches next generation drilling motors

Oilfield Technology,

Sperry Drilling, a Halliburton business, today announced the release of GeoForce® Endure™ and StrataForce™ Endure motors, the latest additions to the drilling motor product line focused on increasing reliability in harsh drilling environments.

Challenging drilling operations can cause motors to degrade, resulting in nonproductive time due to ‘chunking.’ This common failure occurs when the elastomer across the motor’s power section, especially at the lower end of the stator, breaks down. Chunking limits the life and performance of motors, leading to premature product replacement and nonproductive time. The Endure motor technology is designed to overcome this issue with a proprietary metal helix that controls vibration and prevents overloading the stator elastomer.

"The launch of GeoForce Endure and StrataForce Endure motors brings a unique step-change in reliability and performance with the potential to eliminate as much as half of motor chunking failures," said Corey Walker, vice president of Sperry Drilling. "Our goal for the Endure motor technology is to set a new benchmark in productive drilling time."

In two separate wells, an operator in Canada recently deployed the GeoForce Endure motor to drill the curve and lateral section in one run. This demanded an extremely durable motor capable of running for 200 hours while holding high differential pressures of over 1000 psi. On two runs in separate wells, the GeoForce Endure motor showed no signs of chunking and provided improved performance and reliability to reach total depth.

The Endure motors will be formally introduced at SPE’s Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in Dubai. For additional information, please visit our website.
