June 2015: appointments in the upstream oil and gas industry

Laurent Vivier, President Gas, Total

Laurent Vivier has been appointed President Gas at Total, responsible for the Gas division. He reports to the Chief Executive Officer. This appointment is effective from 1 August 2015.

Laurent Vivier started his career within Total in 1996. He held successive positions in the Group’s trading offices in Paris, Geneva, London and Houston. He was responsible for the trading activities in LPG and then in natural gas for the European Continent and North America. 

He moved back to Paris in 2011 where he held various positions as head of strategy for gas, power and renewable energies.

In 2014 he was appointed Vice President Strategy and Market Analysis for the Gas & Power division of Total.

Sven Børre Larsen, Chief Financial Officer, TGS

TGS is pleased to announce the appointment of Sven Børre Larsen as Chief Financial Officer. The effective date of Mr. Larsen's employment is yet to be determined, but will be no later than 1 December 2015. Mr. Larsen will be based in TGS' Asker office.

Mr. Larsen replaces Kristian Johansen as CFO. Mr. Johansen's promotion to COO of TGS was announced in December of 2014. Mr Johansen will continue to also serve as interim CFO until Mr. Larsen's date of employment.

In announcing the appointment, Robert Hobbs, Chief Executive Officer of TGS, commented, "I am pleased to have Sven join our executive team. He brings a wealth of knowledge as a proven CFO of a successful oil and gas services organisation and I look forward to his contribution to TGS' continued success."

Mark Preece, Chief Executive Officer, Ceona

Ceona, SURF contractor with deepwater subsea construction capabilities, has announced today that the company’s executive vice president commercial and business development, Mark Preece, has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer.

Mark takes over from current CEO, Steve Preston, who after 40 years in the industry has decided to retire from operational management and step down. 

John Smith, Chairman at Ceona, said: “Steve is an inspirational leader who has worked with our teams to develop the strong building blocks for our business. We are sorry to see Steve go and extend our best wishes to him for the future, and look forward to Mark building on the foundations he has laid. Mark is a highly-experienced industry figure who has been involved with the subsea market for over 32 years. We believe he will be well placed to lead Ceona through what is an extremely challenging market environment for the industry as a whole.”

Curtis Samford, Chief Executive Officer, AFGlobal Corporation

AFGlobal Corporation has announced that Curtis Samford, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, will assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer. Samford succeeds Gean Stalcup who has served in this capacity for the past five years. Stalcup has been named Chairman of the Board for AFGlobal.

Charles Davison, Jr., President and CEO, FairfieldNodal

FairfieldNodal, an innovative seismic data and technology company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles (Chuck) W. Davison, Jr., as its new President and CEO. Davison succeeds Walter Pharris, who is retiring after 35 years. Pharris will continue to serve as Chairman of the company’s board of directors.

Davison brings with him considerable expertise in global operations and business management. Before joining FairfieldNodal, he was senior vice president at Oceaneering International, Inc., where he had worldwide P&L responsibility for their subsea products group.

“We’re excited about what Chuck’s appointment means for the future of FairfieldNodal as he builds on our current global expansion,” says Roger Keyte, who will serve as Davison’s senior advisor. “Chuck has an impressive track record in strategic business management and value creation that should serve us very well.”

Steve Bertone, Executive Vice President – Americas, Sparrows Group

The Sparrows Group has boosted its senior management team with the appointment of an experienced director to head up its operations across the Americas.

Steve Bertone will be based in Houston and will oversee all of Sparrows Group’s operations in the US, Brazil, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Mr Bertone said: “The Americas is a region that presents a wealth of exciting opportunities for a well-respected business like Sparrows Group. The company has been operating here for many years and the specialist knowledge and excellent reputation for quality and value will provide a good foundation for further growth.”

Chris Elliot, CEO, Wellesley Petroleum

Wellesley Petroleum Holdings Limited, a new exploration company focused exclusively on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, has announced that Chris Elliott has been appointed as CEO.

Wellesley Petroleum was established in February 2015 by management and Blue Water Energy, as an oil and gas exploration company based in Stavanger, Norway. Affiliates of Blue Water Energy have agreed to an initial investment of up to US$250 million in the company. 

Chris Elliott commented, “This is a compelling time to enter the exploration market with a strong, experienced team and a substantial funding line. We continue to believe that Norway can deliver material discoveries, but it requires strong technical skills and extensive experience in the North Sea to develop exciting new prospects. I am delighted to be working together again with my Revus & Agora colleagues and to have long-term financial backing from an experienced investor with whom we have had a very productive history of working with.”

Øystein Løseth, Chair and Roy Franklin, new member and Deputy Chair, Statoil's Board of Directors

Chair of the board Svein Rennemo and board member Jim Mulva had in advance informed the nomination committee that they did not wish to stand for re-election in 2015. Bjørn Tore Godal, Jakob Stausholm and Marjan Oudeman were re-elected as members of the board of directors. Board member Rebekka Glasser Herlofsen, who was elected to the board from 19 March 2015, has been elected until the ordinary election of shareholder-elected members to the board of directors in 2016.

Øystein Løseth has been a member of Statoil ASA's board of directors since 1 October 2014 and is a member of the board's audit committee. Løseth has significant top managerial experience in the energy sector, with particular expertise and experience from the European energy market.

Roy Franklin was a member of the board of directors of StatoilHydro from October 2007, and Statoil's board of directors from November 2009 until June 2013. He has previously been the chair of both the board's safety, sustainability and ethics committee and the board's audit committee. Franklin has broad leadership experience from the oil and gas industry, including from BP, Paladin Resources and Clyde Petroleum.

David Conroy, Chief Technical Officer, International Well Control Forum

The International Well Control Forum (IWCF), the independent organisation that sets international well control standards, has appointed David Conroy as its first Chief Technical Officer (CTO).

Based at the organisation’s UK headquarters, Mr Conroy will be developing this new role to lead changes to the technical aspects of IWCF’s services, including exam quality, programme development, curriculum and training.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Conroy said: “During these challenging times within the oil and gas industry, I am very much looking forward to working within IWCF. I anticipate that we will continue to make significant changes in what we teach within the well control curricula, including rotary and intervention, as we continue to adopt and implement the recommendations from OGP.” 

James Silas, Vice President, Research and Innovation, Keith Dismuke, Vice President, Chemistry Technologies, and Randal Hill, Inaugural Flotek Research Fellow, Flotek Industries, Inc.

Flotek has announced that James A. Silas, Ph.D. has been named Vice President, Research and Innovation; Keith Dismuke Ph.D. has been named Vice President, Chemistry Technologies and Randal Hill, Ph.D. has been named the inaugural Research Fellow in the company’s newly designed Flotek Fellows Program.

The Flotek Fellows Program is designed to attract key energy-focused chemists and other research scientists to the Flotek team to collaborate with the company’s staff scientists to address specific oilfield challenges with innovative chemistry solutions. In addition, it is designed to stimulate interaction between Flotek’s clients, members of the academic community and the company’s scientists and fellows to address specific challenges and opportunities related to oilfield chemistry.

Commenting on the appointments, John Chisholm, Flotek’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer said: “These three scientists – James, Keith and Randal – and their remarkable credentials and accomplishments clearly show Flotek’s commitment to advancing oilfield chemistry and an understanding of the importance of chemistry in the drilling, completion and production processes,” concluded Chisholm.
