Xstrata Coal consolidates its Australian operations
Xstrata Coal has announced it will consolidate its operations in Australia into a single operating division: Xstrata Coal Australia. It had previously operated two divisions in New South Wales and Queensland. Chief operating officer, Ian Cribb, will head the new division.
As a result of the restructuring, Xstrata Coal’s divisional head office in Brisbane will close. The company also announced that it is reviewing corporate services delivered from its Sydney office.
These initiatives will lead to a reduction of Xstrata Coal’s office-based roles in Australia.
Xstrata Coal employs more than 17,000 people, including contractors, around the world. It has interests in more than 30 operating coal mines in Australia, South Africa and Colombia and produces around 100 million tpa of coal.Adapted from press release by Jonathan Rowland.
