Nexans to supply cables for Egina oil platform

Nexans has been selected to be the unique supplier of cabling to Samsung Heavy Industries’, turnkey contractor for TOTAL’s Egina FPSO. The contract awarded by TOTAL to Samsung Heavy Industries worth €2.8 billions is the largest FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) contract to date. This project represents more than 2200 km of power, instrumentation and control to service the FPSO platform, located 130 km off the coast of Nigeria.

The Egina oil field is located at a depth of 1750 m, and will benefit from TOTAL’s extensive deep offshore experience in the Gulf of Guinea.

The cables are specially designed to prevent gas leakages, making them much safer for use in flammable or high-risk environments. This means that the project is able to comply with local fire safety regulations and meet the strict technical specifications for IEC standards and Bureau Veritas certificate.

The FPSO, operated by TOTAL, will be operational from 2017. It is 330 m in length, 61 m across and 34 m high, with a storage capacity of 2.3 million bbls of oil. Samsung Heavy Industries will deliver the FPSO through a turnkey contract that includes design, procurement, building, transportation and pilot operation.
