North Sea joint meeting in Aberdeen

GMB call for North Sea firms not to make decisions on the hoof that could have long-term implications for the UK oil and gas sector.

Decisions affecting the long-term future of this industry require proper assessment of the current situation and what needs to be done including action by UK and Scottish Governments says GMB.

GMB, the union for workers employed by offshore contractors in the North Sea oil and gas industry, for engineering construction workers working onshore on North Sea related projects and for gas and energy workers, commented in advance of a joint meeting tomorrow (16th January) in Aberdeen of all parties involved in the offshore oil and gas industry including GMB and other unions.

David Hulse, GMB National Officer and chair of the Offshore Contractors Association Agreement covering 10 000 workers, said "GMB is asking contractors and clients in the North Sea oil and gas industry to hold off from making fundamental decisions affecting the long-term future of this industry until we have all had a proper chance to assess the current situation and what needs to be done including action by UK and Scottish Governments.

We do not want decisions made on the hoof that could have long-term implications. We hope to be clearer after tomorrow’s meeting."
