DONG Energy has welcomed the start-up of gas production from the Laggan-Tormore fields in the UK’s West of Shetlands area. Operated by Total with DONG Energy a 20% equity owner, Laggan-Tormore is located in 600 m of water West of Shetland and will produce 90 000 bbls of oil equivalent a day (boe/d).

David Cook, Executive Vice President for DONG Energy Oil & Gas said:

“This marks our first UK production and is an exciting step forward for our business.  Laggan-Tormore has been a pioneer project to develop new infrastructure and to secure gas production from this frontier area of the UK Continental Shelf. To do this we have worked closely with some of our peers in the UK oil industry as well as the authorities and have established an important strategic position for our business.”

He added “Achieving our first production from Laggan-Tormore further underlines DONG Energy’s growing portfolio and commitment in the UK.

Michael Smith, Managing Director DONG Oil & Gas UK said:

“Following our many discoveries in the West of Shetlands, we have worked hard to realise the area’s huge potential. First production shows that, together with operator Total, we have successfully delivered this complex project from exploration through appraisal, then to development and now operations.”

The Laggan-Tormore fields are located in the deep water, West of the Shetland region. The development consists of a 140 km tie-back of four subsea wells to the new onshore Shetland Gas Plant which has a capacity of 500 million standard ft3/d. Following treatment at the gas plant, the processed gas is exported to the mainland.

DONG Energy is also a partner in the development of the nearby offshore Edradour and Glenlivet fields, which will tie into Laggan-Tormore’s infrastructure. The Edradour discovery is located 75 km northwest of Shetland in 300 m of water and the Glenlivet discovery is located north of Edradour in 400 m of water. Edradour is expected to start up in 2017, followed by Glenlivet in 2018.

DONG Energy Oil & Gas holds a 20% interest in Laggan-Tormore, Edradour and Glenlivet along with operator Total (60%) and SSE E&P UK Limited (20%).
