Minister to promote Asian LNG investment in B.C.

Oilfield Technology,

Canadian Minister for Natural Gas Development, Rich Coleman, will leave for Southeast Asia on Friday in a move to promote the development of the British Columbian LNG industry.

Coleman stressed that advancement in the LNG industry requires strong ties with Asian markets. “Asian investors […] need to understand British Columbia is open for business and competitive with other jurisdictions. I look forward to discussing how British Columbia can best work with them to build and operate some of the world’s cleanest facilities along our north coast. And I look forward to working with them in the longer term to stimulate our economy in a meaningful way and make new, well-paying jobs available to British Columbians.”

Convincing investors

The minister will travel to South Korea, China and Malaysia, where he will coordinate with companies that are involved in impending LNG schemes in British Columbia, and convince potential investors of B.C.’s firm intention of supplying Asian markets with LNG, and its potential for stable trade and investment. Coleman will visit the Petronas LNG facility in Bintulu, Malaysia, one of the largest units on the planet.

Coleman will also speak at the Canada-Korea Dialogue on Energy in Seoul, the 22nd World Energy Conference in Daegu, South Korea, and the ninth Canada-China Energy and Environment Forum in Beijing, China.
