Ovako is among the exhibitors at this year’s SPE Offshore Europe in Aberdeen, UK, where it will demonstrate how its high quality engineering steels are addressing the technical challenges facing today’s oil and gas industry.

Inspiring the next generation

'Inspiring the next generation' is the theme of this year’s SPE Offshore Europe, the largest exploration and production event outside of North America. More than 63 000 energy professionals are expected to attend the event at the AECC (Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre) in Aberdeen, UK, on September 8-11.

Ovako will take the opportunity to present its newest attribute branded steel family, SZ-Steel. Designed for safer operations in extreme cold, sub-zero steels by Ovako offer high impact strength at temperatures of -40 °C and below and are proven at temperatures down to -101 °C.

SZ-Steel was awarded the Spotlight on Arctic Technology Award at OTC's Arctic Technology Conference, earlier this year, recognising innovative new products that have significantly impacted Arctic exploration and production.

“We understand that oil and gas customers need to address growing energy demands with better safety and greater sustainability. To achieve this, they require more consistent and optimised steel performances across their critical applications,” said Björn Olsson, Business Developer, Oil and Gas, Ovako.

“This is where our attribute brands come into play. The Ovako offer means that you can realise your designs and also stay ahead of the competition.”

The other attribute brands by Ovako include BQ-Steel®, IQ-Steel® and M-Steel®. Each steel family has a distinctive characteristic based on customer demands. Ovako works closely with its customers to select more consistent and optimised steels and solutions, in order to bring higher performance and cost advantages across their operations.

Characteristics

Characteristics of M-Steel include that it is designed for easier, faster and more economical machining and reduced costs, with cutting speeds of up to 30% above conventional steels.

The excellent fatigue properties in bearing quality BQ-Steel can enable significant safety features and design changes, while isotropic IQ-Steel offers besides superior fatigue properties enhanced performance against loads in all directions.

Steve Wakeman, Sales Manager, Ovako UK, said, “Aberdeen has long been a global centre of expertise for the oil and gas industry. Ovako looks forward to giving visitors at our Stand 4A151 an opportunity to see for themselves how we continually develop our services and solutions for ever more consistent and optimised steel performances.”

Ovako attribute brands are set apart from the competition by the quality of the low alloy steels and offered in different forms such as bar, tube and rolled ring products. All products are supplied in near net shape to customers to save time and money, and minimise scrap.
