Stena transfers two LNG ships to UK register.

Stena LNG, a subsidiary of the Stena Group, has transferred two of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships to the UK register.

The LNG ships, Stena Crystal Sky and Stena Clear Sky, will move to the Stranraer Port of Registry near Cairnyan, where another Stana group, Stena Line, recently finalised the construction of a new ferry port, worth £200 million. The LNG ships will join other Stena Group ships including ferries, tankers and offshore drill ships, which also carry the red ensign.

CEO of Stena LNG, Kim Ullman, said: “Stena LNG is committed to maintaining its position as a world leader in quality, health, safety and environment management systems. In view of this combination of factors, the UK register is a stable and good haven for our ships”.

Dan Sten Olsson, CEO of the Stena Group, spoke of the UK register’s “strong advantages”, stressing its professionalism and expert focus on safety measures. He added: “They also have the requisite understanding of today’s commercial realities and the growing competition to attract global shipping companies of Stena’s calibre to the register.”

The responsibility for ship management of the LNG vessels will be assumed by Glasgow-based Northern Marine management, the technical management company for Stena group.
