AWE Ltd, an energy company focused on upstream oil and gas and the operator of permits L1/L2 in the Perth Basin, has announced that the Waitsia-2 appraisal well is at a 1622 m MD below rotary table.
The Waitsia-2 appraisal well is the last in a series of three wells, each of which have been drilled as part of a 2015 project in the Perth Basin. This well is located approximately 16.5 km east-southeast of Dongara, and 5.6 km south-southwest of Waitsia-1.
Spudded on 28 June 2015, the drilling of Waitsia-2 to a total depth of 3803 m MD below rotary table is estimated to take a total of seven weeks to complete. This well has been designed to test the gas potential in the southern extension of one of the largest onshore conventional gas discoveries in Western Australia, the Waitsia Field.
Drilling is set to continue in a 12 ¼ in. hole to the next planned section depth of 2760 m, following the successful installation of 13 3/8 in. surface casing at 1297 m.
