Statoil receives consent to use Songa Dee
Statoil has received consent to use Songa Dee for well plugging at Gullfaks Sør, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA).
Statoil is the operator at Gullfaks Sør, located in block 34/10 in the northern part of the North Sea. The field has been developed using a subsea solution tied back to the Gullfaks A and C facilities. Production on the field began in October 1998.
Statoil has now received consent to use the Songa Dee mobile drilling facility to plug exploration well 34/10-52 A/B permanently. The well was drilled and temporarily plugged in 2011. The operation is estimated to last for 16 days.
Songa Dee is a semi-submersible mobile drilling facility of the Mitsubishi MD-602 type, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan in 1984.
The facility is owned and operated by Songa Management AS of Stavanger.
