Gasum Oy planning LNG regasification terminal in Finland
Gasum Oy is exploring the feasability of building a large LNG import terminal in either Jöddböle, Ingå, or Tolkkinen, Porvoo. The company is beginning an environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure covering both potential sites in April. The terminal is expected to require an investment of €200 – €400 million.
The terminal will have a planned capacity of 10–20 TWh of natural gas, or 20-25% of Finland’s current annual gas consumption. The LNG will be sourced from the world market and regasified at the import terminal before being fed into the national gas grid.
It is hoped that having an LNG import terminal will help Finland diversify it’s sources of supply and allow it to access natural gas at a competitive price, it also allows a flexible way to increase supply during the cold winter peak period. The company aims to achieve the completion of the LNG terminal for full import, storage and network injection capacity by the end of 2018.
