Tests confirm quality metallurgical coal at UK Lochinvar project

Oilfield Technology,

Australian based coal company, New Age Exploration (NAE), has announced that washability test work results at the company’s flagship Lochinvar coal project, in the UK, have demonstrated potential for Lochinvar to produce an attractive low ash volatile metallurgical coal for the UK and European markets.

Situated on the border between Scotland and England, Lochinvar contains a conceptual exploration target of 330 million to 410 million t of potential high volatile semi hard metallurgical coal. The project is well served by extensive infrastructure, including rail links within 1 km providing access to multiple ports and steelworks.

NAE was granted the Lochinvar coal project in June 2012. The company has been advancing an exploration programme aimed at the delineation of a JORC inferred resource and completion of a scoping study during 2013.

These wahsability results, checked and confirmed by two UK laboratories, indicate Lochinvar has the potential to produce low ash and low phosphorous clean metallurgical coal at good yields.

Sulfur values range between 1.76% to 1.07%, UK customers for the Lochinvar coal, such as steel mills and merchant coke producers, suggest these levels are within desirable specifications.

The maximum fluidity demonstrated by the coal is high and could provide a suitable blend for coals of lower reactivity.

NAE managing director, Garry Fietz, commented, “These test results indicate the potential for Lochinvar coal to be an attractive low ash metallurgical coal, ideal for sale into the UK and European markets.”

Earlier test results indicated that the Lochinvar coals are high volatile bituminous coals with good metallurgical properties.
