The US Energy Information Administration’s April Natural Gas Monthly, with data through February 2016, has been released.
In February, for the third straight year, dry natural gas production was the highest for the month since EIA began reporting dry natural gas production data in 1973. Preliminary dry natural gas production for February 2016 was 2183 billion ft3, or 75.3 billion ft3/d. This level was a 1.7 billion ft3/d (2.3%) increase from February 2015 production of 73.6 billion ft3/d.
Preliminary dry natural gas consumption for February 2016 was 2703 billion ft3, or 93.2 billion ft3/d. This level was a decrease of 11.6% from 2952 billion ft3 in February 2015, or 12.2 billion ft3/d.
Year-over-year total consumption of dry natural gas in February decreased in three of the four consuming sectors, with the exception being electric power deliveries, which increased year to year. Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in February 2016 were as follows:
- Residential deliveries were 707 billion ft3, or 24.4 billion ft3/d, down 24.5% from 32.3 billion ft3/d in February 2015.
- Commercial deliveries were 421 billion ft3, or 14.5 billion ft3/d, down 21.8% from 18.6 billion ft3/d in February 2015.
- Industrial deliveries were 668 billion ft3, or 23.0 billion ft3/d, down 2.6% from 23.6 billion ft3/d in February 2015.
These monthly production estimates are based on data from the EIA-914, Monthly Crude Oil, Lease Condensate, and Natural Gas Production Report.
