Whilst the current industry climate demands cost savings across all business streams, it is crucial that companies do not compromise safety measures or become complacent when it comes to safety in the workplace. People Factor Consultants Ltd (PFC), specialist in both technical and non-technical workplace safety and performance, has responded to these challenges, by developing a cost and time saving electrical safety course.

The new HV Systems Operations course is aimed at individuals who require the skills and knowledge to control an HV/LV generation and distribution system - whether the topic is new or a refresher.

Commenting on the development of the course, technical director, Brian Crichton, explains: “This is an extremely flexible addition to our portfolio, which offers delegates the choice to complete the full course or simply choose the specific modules required. Essentially, we have combined eight days’ worth of training into one five-day course, with numerous variations, which results in a dramatic time reduction and significant cost savings for operators.”

The course combines three vital electrical safety modules; HV/LV Switching, Protection Relay Operations and Electricity at Work Regulations. Combined, these modules provide delegates with vital electrical safety knowledge, situation awareness skills and a comprehensive understanding of safety regulations in the workplace.

Brian continues: “Combined with our in-house and portable high fidelity training simulators, this course ensures our training effectively accommodates shift rotation patterns on and offshore. The compact nature of the training ultimately reduces the costs of overtime, accommodation and travel requirements for staff training, negating the need to attend a number of courses over a period of months.

“This remains an extremely challenging time for the industry and we have developed this course in response to current industry needs for cost effective training solutions. Without these, there will always be the risk that training is cut and safety is compromised. Our flexible training courses mitigate these risks and ensure delegates are equipped with the technical and non-technical skills required for a comprehensive understanding of workplace safety.”

As suppliers to a substantial number of the world’s leading oil and gas companies, PFC offers a portfolio of 15 technical and non-technical training courses, many of which are City & Guilds-accredited, as well as providing tailored training and consultancy services to high hazard industries on a worldwide basis. PFC leads the way in ensuring that all industries comprehend the importance of complementary technical and non-technical skills training.
