With production of the Knarr field, Wintershall is has strengthened its position as one of the major producers on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Discovered in 2008, the field has been developed at a water depth of about 400 metres with two facilities on the sea bed and a floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). The FPSO has a production capacity of 63 000 bpd.
Knarr is situated in the northern North Sea, about 45 kilometers north-east of the Snorre field. Wintershall has a 20% working interest in license PL373 S, the operator is BG Norge (45%). The other license partners are Idemitsu Petroleum Norge (25%) and DEA Norge (10%).
In just two years, Germany’s largest internationally active crude oil and natural gas producer has raised its daily production volume in Norway from 3000 boe to currently more than 60 000 boe. Wintershall is one of the fastest growing companies on the shelf. “In order to further build on our strong position in Norway, we will bring our own discoveries such as Maria and Skarfjell into the production phase. At the same time, our partner-operated fields are an important factor of our growth in Norway. Therefore, I am very pleased that the Knarr field has now commenced production,” says Bernd Schrimpf, Managing Director of Wintershall Norge.
Norway is a core region of Wintershall’s international activities. The BASF subsidiary has established itself successfully in Norway as an integrated exploration and production company.
