RedHawk Coil Tubing, a technology-driven provider of integrated well services, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with WWT International, a global leader in advanced coiled tubing tractor technology.

Together, the two companies have successfully completed a breakthrough operation in North America — achieving over 8500 feet of tractored coiled tubing, marking a first-of-its-kind milestone in the region.

This achievement represents a significant advancement in extended-reach coil tubing capabilities and introduces a new, safer solution to one of the industry’s most persistent challenges: coil tubing lock-up.

A new approach to extended-reach intervention

Traditional coiled tubing operations are often limited by friction and wellbore forces that lead to lock-up, preventing further reach and requiring alternative, higher-risk intervention methods.

Through the integration of WWT’s coiled tubing tractor technology, RedHawk can now deliver controlled downhole conveyance using a hydraulic gripper and ram system that anchors to the wellbore and pulls the tubing forward. This allows operators to continue operations beyond conventional limits while maintaining consistent weight on bit and operational control.

Reducing risk, improving efficiency

This advancement provides a compelling alternative to traditional high-pressure intervention methods such as snubbing.

By enabling coil tubing to reach greater depths and maintain effectiveness, operators can:

  • Reduce reliance on snubbing operations, minimising personnel exposure to high-pressure environments.
  • Improve operational safety by lowering dynamic loading and fatigue on tubing strings.
  • Increase efficiency through continuous operations without service interruptions.
  • Lower overall costs by simplifying logistics and reducing equipment requirements.

Technology built for performance

WWT International brings over three decades of engineering expertise and innovation in well intervention technologies, with a portfolio of patented solutions designed for complex downhole environments.

Their coiled tubing tractor systems are engineered to:

  • Operate hydraulically without wireline dependency.
  • Anchor securely within the wellbore using expandable grippers.
  • Deliver consistent, controlled force downhole.
  • Perform in both cased hole and open hole applications.

This technology complements RedHawk’s integrated service offering, allowing for enhanced performance across a wide range of well conditions.

Expanding the capabilities of coil tubing

“This partnership represents a major step forward in what coil tubing can accomplish,” said Waylin Ott, C.O.O. at RedHawk Coil Tubing. “By working with WWT International and implementing their tractor technology, we are able to extend our reach, improve safety, and provide our clients with a more efficient alternative to traditional intervention methods.” The successful application of this technology in North America signals a shift in how operators can approach extended-reach wells — unlocking new opportunities for coil tubing where limitations previously existed.
