Talos Energy has said that it has been notified by Mexico's Ministry of Energy (SENER) that it has designated Pemex as the operator of the Zama unit offshore Mexico.

Since being awarded Block 7 as the first private operator in the country, Talos drilled the exploratory well that led to the Zama field discovery in July 2017. The company subsequently drilled three additional wells as part of the delineation of the Zama field, advanced a complete FEED study and presented the country's National Hydrocarbons Commission with a development plan.

Talos has said it is "very disappointed" with SENER's decision and will explore all legal and strategic options.
