Wintershall Norge AS is the operator of the Maria field, an oil and gas field at Haltenbanken in the Norwegian Sea, around 230 km from the Trøndelag coast. Water depth in the area is approximately 300 m. The field is to be developed using a subsea facility.

Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority has given Wintershall consent to use the Deepsea Stavanger mobile drilling facility to drill six production wells on the field.

Deepsea Stavanger is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the GVA 7500 type, built in South Korea in 2010. It is owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling. The Deepsea Stavanger was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) on 16 March 2017.
