Making fracking work for Britain

A fringe meeting, Making Fracking Work for Britain, will be held at the Labour Party Conference tomorrow, Monday, September 22, at 1930.

Chris Faulkner, CEO of Breitling Energy Corporation and known by the US media as the Frack Master, will be joined by Jane Thomas, senior campaigner from Friends of the Earth, together with interested MPs to discuss shale rock exploration and the fracking in the UK.

The meeting will be held in Exchange 11, first floor, Convention Complex, Windmill St, Manchester M2 3GX, from 1930 until 2100, with refreshments served upon arrival.

Chris Faulkner, who recently published The Fracking Truth about the US shale revolution, will call for local communities in the UK to benefit more from fracking in their area, perhaps using the US royalties approach. He is currently working with a leading UK legal firm to see how the US royalties model could be adapted to enable local communities to benefit from the shale exploitation happening in their area.

Other key issues for discussion will be how local communities can be better protected from fracking activities in their area, as well as the public relations disaster that surrounds fracking in the UK: the lack of engagement by the industry with communities, and the lack of information from the industry to date.

Chris Faulkner said: “Communities in the UK have not had access to information, or had their questions answered, and they have not been properly consulted by the industry that wants to drill and then frack their back yards.

“We want people to make their own judgements based on all the facts rather than only the scary stories that play so well on the evening news, in local newspapers or on social media.”
