Weatherford International plc has announced that its Secure Drilling Services facility in Aberdeen, Scotland, received API Specification Q2 certification — making it the first API Q2-certified facility in the United Kingdom.

API Specification Q2 is the highest quality standard established by the American Petroleum Institute and is recognised as the world’s most advanced certification for oil and gas service providers. To gain certification, a facility must demonstrate a robust quality management system that assures personnel competency, risk assessment, contingency planning and other key elements.

The Aberdeen facility manages the equipment and service quality of Weatherford’s industry-leading managed pressure drilling systems, which are then deployed on rigs throughout Europe. Managed pressure drilling is an advanced technique used to control wellbore pressure and reduce risk and uncertainty while drilling on land and offshore.

“This certification is a testament to the commitment, teamwork and dedication of all of our business groups,” said Gary Duncan, managing director of Weatherford U.K. Limited. “A journey that began with the successful implementation of our Operational Excellence and Performance System (OEPS) has resulted in this landmark achievement.”

“Safety and service quality remain core pillars of our culture as a company,” said Kyle Chapman, vice president of quality, health, safety, security and environment (QHSSE) at Weatherford. “This recognition demonstrates our commitment to setting a high bar for service quality and executing our work safely at this level.”
