The PSA has given Statoil consent to use the Songa Equinox mobile drilling facility to drill well 31/2-S-24 AY1H on the Troll field.

Songa Equinox is a semi-submersible drilling facility operated by Songa Offshore. The rig received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) on 20 November 2015.

The Troll field is located around 65 km west of Kollsnes in Hordaland County and is the largest gas discovery made in the North Sea.

The consent is an extended consent to use the Controlled Mud Level method – formerly referred to as dual gradient drilling (DGD).

The expected start-up is late September 2017. The activity is expected to last 75 days.

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has now granted consent to use Songa Equinox on the Troll field in accordance with Statoil's application.
