Atlas Copco introduces new 1 MW generator

Oilfield Technology,

To meet customer demand for large generators, Atlas Copco is introducing the 1 MW QAC flx. Available in three model variants, the QAC flx can be customised to suit a wide variety of situations such as high altitudes or extreme weather conditions. Their flexibility and reliability make the containerised units ideal for either prime power or critical standby power in the oil and gas, rental, mining, industrial and construction industries.

The QAC flx is a containerised generator with large power nodes and a standard cooling system. The new generator comes in three model variants. The QAC 1000 flx and QAC 1250 flx have been developed for the international market (excluding Japan). The QAC 1000 flx is driven by a Cummins QST30G5 engine to meet the European Stage 2 emission standards.

The third variant, the 60 Hz QAC 1200 flx, which made its debut at Power-Gen International 2013 in Orlando (USA) has been custom-designed to US and Canadian specifications. This includes compliance with the EPA Tier 2 emission standards.

Engineered solutions
The new models have been engineered for 500-hour service intervals, thus requiring less maintenance. A spill-proof frame offers complete compliance with environmental regulations, and the low noise level (85 dBA at 1 m) is ideal for sound-sensitive applications. Furthermore, the three model variants are containerised (20 ft) for ease of transport.

One option available is the Qc4002 controller. This controller enables a user to create a power management system (PMS). This simple method to parallel two or more generator sets provides flexible power solutions for loads that exceed the output capability of a single generator set. It can also be used to provide continuous power, allowing individual generator sets to be shut down for scheduled maintenance or repair without complete plant shutdown.

Additional options include earth leakage relay, battery charger, coolant heater, alternator heater, external fuel supply 3-way valves with quick connections, automatic fuel transfer system, engine lube oil make up system, cold weather package and air shutdown valve.

The QAC 1000 flx, QAC 1200 flx and QAC 1250 flx are designed to deliver predictable power and a low total cost of ownership (TCO) through reliable performance and risk-free operation.

“Customers don’t need a piece of equipment; they need power. In order to deliver these key benefits and the peace of mind that comes with them, Predictable Power is ingrained in everything we do, from design, testing, building, to commissioning and maintenance,” said Atlas Copco Portable Energy’s Julio Tome, Product Manager – Generators.
